So VERY BLAND. I didn't add any water and used only chicken broth. When all was said and done, after tasting the recipe as it was written (minus the water), I ended up adding 2 additional teaspoons of red wine vinegar, additional soy sauce, hot chili peppers and chili paste to bring it up to having some flavor. I probably will not ever make this again. I gave it 2 stars since I was able to salvage it into something edible with flavor.
I made this for my fiancé. He loves traditional hot and sour soup when he is sick. So I decided on something a bit different. I did add a bit of teriyaki and a dash of brown sugar and a bit more of the red pepper flakes. It turned out nicely. A good balance of hot and sour with the hint of sweetness and tang. We loved it!!!
